Easy Arepa con Carne Desmechada (Arepa with Shredded Beef)

Arepas are the definition of comfort food you can hold. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, and perfect for stuffing with bold, savory fillings. This version—filled with tender shredded beef—is simple, satisfying, and packed with flavor thanks to our House Blend seasoning.
The beef is slowly simmered until it falls apart, soaking up garlicky, savory notes along the way. Once tucked into warm arepas with cheese and avocado, it’s the kind of meal that works just as well for lunch, dinner, or a weekend get-together.
Ingredients
- 1½ lbs flank steak or chuck roast, cut into chunks
- 4 Tbsp House Blend
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 8 pre-made arepas
- Shredded cheese and avocado, for serving
Instructions
- Season the beef chunks generously on all sides with the House Blend.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the beef on all sides, about 8 minutes total.
- Add the sliced onion and cook for about 3 minutes, until softened.
- Pour in the beef broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 45 minutes, until the beef shreds easily with a fork.
- Shred the beef directly in the pan and mix it back into the cooking juices.
- Warm the arepas, slice them open, and stuff with shredded beef, cheese, and avocado.
Why House Blend Is the Key
House Blend brings a balanced, garlicky depth that seasons the beef perfectly without overpowering it. As the meat simmers, the seasoning melds with the broth and onions, creating a rich, savory filling that’s full of comfort and flavor.
Chef Tip: If the pan starts to dry out while simmering, add a splash of broth or water to keep the beef juicy.
